Generally, wine is composed of water (86%), ethanol (12%), glycerol, higher alcohol, and polysaccharides (1%), organic acids (0.4%), polyphenols such as anthocyanin and tannins (0.1%), minerals, volatile compounds, and other compounds (0.5%).
You would say not that bad !?
But almost all commercially-made wines include additives in their process. There are over 60 additives in wine, ( Some of those names include gum arabic, activated carbon, ammonium phosphate, alumino-silicates, ascorbic acid, citric acid, copper sulfate, polyoxythylene 40, dimethyl dicarbonate, carbohydrase, tannins and mega purple) and winemakers aren’t legally obligated to disclose whether they’ve used!
What’s worse – all Non-Organic wines can use chemicals like herbicides and fungicides in the vineyards. European agency that tracks pesticide use in agricultural areas have estimated that over 30 different chemicals of varying toxicity being used in vineyards to fight fungal infections of plants!
There is a serious lack of regulation in developing wine countries like Chile, Portugal and France as many vineyards faces trials as vignerons getting poisoned whit pesticides.
Wines are manipulated for multiple reasons, and not all of them bad, however, there is a problem with herbicides and pesticides, like Roundup joining your dinner! Unless it’s only Occasionally and Organic!
